NORT 2 VORT Course
The RADskills NORT 2 VORT course is specifically for the new driver. The aim is to equip a new driver with the necessary skills to competently control a vehicle. The course is a team effort between RADskills the student and the supervising driver. Comprising of six 2 hr sessions with comprehensive RADskills designed driver manuals. Students and supervising drivers are assisted step by step through the driving skills process, the aim is to have students ready for a V.O.R.T examination;
Module one is based on 2 x 2 hr sessions
This is an introduction to driving, Students are presented with the basic techniques of setting up the cabin, safety systems in the vehicle, steering, vision, braking, braking at higher speeds and collision avoidance. Due to the nature of the exercises we present these lessons in a safe area. This also includes 3 commentary drives by our instructor demonstrating the tasks performed by a safe driver, the final drive is conducted by the student.
Module two 3 x 2 hr sessions
In this module the students are introduced to the routine driving techniques such as, lane changing, merging, round-a-bouts, gap selection, driving at higher speeds, speed management, merging and interaction with heavy vehicles. A session dedicated to cornering where we present the dynamics of road construction, cautionary signs and cornering techniques. The module will be completed with complex intersections, road markings, multiple lanes finishing with an exercise designed to allow the student to drive un assisted. During the final 2 sessions we require the supervising driver to be present this is an integral part of the training programme as we will also be presenting the 5 slow speed manoeuvres (moving off from the curb, reverse parallel parking, angle parking, U turns and the 3 point turn)
Module three 1 x 2 hr session
The Mock VORT this module is a revision of all the techniques presented in the programme and an introduction to the VORT assessment. It is important to note that we do not train on existing VORT routs. The mock VORT is used as a tool to assess our students readiness for the final exam and a final chance to brush up on any of the slow speed manoeuvres that may need attention
