extremely worthwhile course
By Craig - 28/03/2012

Me and seven other reprobates completed your riding course on Tuesday 20th March. I found the bike set up session fantastic. The tool pouches were a nice touch and I think everyone had a crack at changing something; I certainly did and have since had a play with my suspension since returning home. Your explanation of hazard perception was straightforward and had a lot of us nodding in realisation, understanding and agreement. I liked your take on lane placement, both mobile and stationary and think it has a lot of merit. The individual feedback you gave was good and was delivered in a very positive way. I don't think anyone left without a bit of personalised advice. Your explanation of corner construction and signage was extremely beneficial and explained much of what I feel through corners. This would have to be the highlight of the day for me and changed my riding style on the journey back to Loxton. Even though I have completed the Victorian Police Special Solo Unit course and have done much of the lane placement and hazard management that you covered on the day, it was a good revision for me and clarified some differences that had been nagging me since the course. The VicPol course would advocate managing and controlling the surrounding traffic at all times whereas on my own bike I felt that this would sometimes leave me a little vulnerable and exposed. Your course confirmed my feelings and I now feel better equipped to adapt my riding style depending on my 'role'. Having Boyd along for the day provided an opportunity to have a quite chat and pick his brains on this and that. He's a nice bloke and I reckon he might be a bit of a quite achiever... This was an extremely worthwhile course to do and I will certainly be recommending it to anyone who rides.

Cornering like never before
By Alan - 05/01/2012

Just went on one of Jeff's one on one cornering classes throught the Hills. Money very well spent guys. After spending the day recieving great tuition, and having the opportunity to really test it out, i can say that my overall riding experience has just increased 10 fold. Corners have never felt so good and the advice he gave was easy to understand and adopt. This is a must for any rider.

Complete Motorcycle Course 4/12/11
By Melanie - 09/12/2011

The course starts off with bike maintenance. This section is great, because it teaches you how to adjust your bike to suit your shape, height, weight, etc. These are skills that you need to know yourself, because they required your input (as Jeff put it, it’s like adjusting your driver’s seat when you get in the car). It’s pretty simple stuff as well – I’m not that mechanically minded and I found it easy enough to follow. Now my gear shifter is raised, I feel like I can actually fit my foot under it and I’m no longer getting false neutrals. Also, now I have softer suspension (I’m a female rider and quite light) I no longer get that nasty back wheel vibration through corners. Of course, the motorcycle safety and road awareness section was very thorough, but let’s get on to cornering… Word of the wise to the rev heads… Jeff told us ‘you learn to go fast by going slow’. I total agree – now that I think about it, I’m continually telling my guitar students the same thing… After you’ve learnt about how to analyse and negotiate a corner you will discover a few of the common misconceptions people have about body positioning when cornering. Probably the best thing I learnt was that you can practice the same body position that you would use for a high speed turn, at a much lower speed (60km - the speed limit) by just holding the bike more upright (instead of pulling it in with you). You’ll keep more tire on the road and hence the turn will feel more comfortable/secure (though you might feel like an idiot in your new racing posture going around light square ☺). You will be video recorded and later in the day you get to see how different you look when you ride as to how you actually feel (personally I feel way cooler). All in all, an invaluable experience. In six months I’ll probably go back and do the cornering course for a more intense look at cornering. Thanks Jeff, my cornering is much smoother now and my bike is set up correctly for my body.

had a great day,... learnt quite a bit about motorbike maintenance and the setup of my bike including repositioning levers. much more confident after learning about corners and what the rider should be doing in the corners for eagle on the hill, and then getting to practice it leading a ride through 80 and 100 zones, thanks very much for all your help today!

increase my life expectancy on a motorcycle!
By Mike Roberts - 24/10/2011

Just returned to motorcycle riding after a 30 year break. Bought a new bike and really enjoyed the first 5000k but found myself avoiding the twisties through lack of confidence as I wasn’t getting my lines right in those corners. I figured at my age (or any age!) spending a day with an expert who could get down to the basics in keeping with the KISS (keep it simple stupid!) principle could quite likely increase my life expectancy on a motorcycle! Jeff didn’t disappoint! The two hours at the start of the day we spent on understanding the set up of the bike was fantastic, as the little changes we made to our machines made all the difference once out on the road. Jeff employed all the good teaching strategies to make sure we understood (and more importantly could put into practice) the observational, cornering, braking and body positioning skills we would need. Once up at Eagle on the Hill we spent time talking about the theory of cornering and then rode in a car through the series of curves we were about to bike while Jeff talked (and walked) us through each one. We rode down and back behind Jeff first before taking the lead ourselves with Jeff observing from behind. Debriefing occurred at every stage. A session on emergency braking dramatically decreased our stopping distance. When the formal teaching part of the day was over we went for an hour and a half ride through the hills where we shared the lead while Jeff videoed our progress. I had a two hour ride home after a very long day and I can honestly say it was one of the better rides I’ve had. I’m more confident and more relaxed on the bike and feel much more prepared for the surprises that await us all out there. If you’re new or returning to motorcycling or even if you just haven’t been out riding enough and are feeling a bit rusty this course is good value, will increase your enjoyment of your bike and may even save your life. If you’re a parent of a young person just starting out on a bike – don’t even think about it – just pick up the phone and book them in!

The Bike skills was excellent, setting the bike up was something new higlighting areas I hadn't considered. The exercise on cornering had an immedieate impact of how I was riding, by end of day confidence in cornering had reached new heights - looking forward to getting back on the road to put it all into practice. Jeff is very professional - one thing missing for me - a quick coffee/tea break in mid morning to allow all the info to sink in and revitalise, a few flasks on Eagle on the Hill would be good. Would reccomend the course to anyone wishing to enjoy the ride taht bit more - cheers Jeff.

Advanced on road motorcycle course
By Kym Harris - 31 January 2010

Advanced on road motorcycle course and found it excellent. Jeff's instruction was really tailored to the individual and gave heaps of theory and practice that has made a big difference almost immediately to my riding. On all counts I would recommend this program for someone who wants to be a much better rider. (Besides that, it was a lot of fun learning.)
